How to Configure a DNS Server on Your Device

Configuring a custom DNS server can help resolve website or app access issues and improve connectivity in certain network conditions. This guide explains how to update DNS settings on commonly used devices. Google Public DNS: Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8 Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

Configure DNS on Windows (Windows 10 / 11)

Steps:

  1. Open Control PanelNetwork and InternetNetwork and Sharing Center

  2. Click Change adapter settings

  3. Right-click your active network → Properties

  4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4)Properties

  5. Choose Use the following DNS server addresses

  6. Enter:

    • Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8

    • Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4

  7. Click OK and close all windows

  8. Restart your browser/app

Configure DNS on macOS

Steps:

  1. Open System SettingsNetwork

  2. Select your active network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet)

  3. Click DetailsDNS

  4. Click + and add:

    • 8.8.8.8

    • 8.8.4.4

  5. Click OKApply

  6. Restart the browser/app

Steps:

Private DNS (Recommended)

  1. Open SettingsNetwork & Internet

  2. Tap Private DNS

  3. Select Private DNS provider hostname

  4. Enter: dns.google

  5. Save changes

Configure DNS on iPhone / iPad (iOS)

Steps:

  1. Open SettingsWi-Fi

  2. Tap the icon next to your connected network

  3. Tap Configure DNS

  4. Select Manual

  5. Remove existing DNS entries

  6. Add:

    • 8.8.8.8

    • 8.8.4.4

  7. Save settings

After Configuration

  • Close and reopen the browser or app

  • If required, restart the device

  • Changes usually apply immediately
