Set Up OBS Studio for Screen Sharing and Recording in Learnyst Live Classes

OBS Studio allows you to share your screen, webcam, and microphone in a live class while simultaneously recording the session on your computer. By connecting OBS Virtual Camera to Learnyst Live Classes, you can create a professional teaching experience for your learners.

  • To set up OBS Studio for screen sharing and recording, open the OBS Studio application on your computer.

     

  • You need to add three sources to your OBS scene:

    • Display Capture (Screen Sharing)
    • Video Capture Device (Webcam)
    • Audio Input Capture (Microphone)

     

  • To add your screen, click the + button in the Sources panel.

  • Select Display Capture.

  • Enter a name for the source and click OK.

  • Select the display you want to share and record, then click OK again.

  • Once the screen is added, click the Lock icon to prevent accidental changes.

  • To add your webcam, click the + button and select Video Capture Device.

  • Enter a name for the source and click OK.

  • Choose your preferred camera and click OK.

  • Adjust the size and position of the webcam preview so learners can see you clearly during the class.

  • To add your microphone, click the + button and select Audio Input Capture.

  • Enter a name for the source and click OK.

  • Then, choose the microphone you want to use and click OK. This allows learners to hear your voice during the live session.Then click the Lock icon to prevent accidental changes

  • Once all sources are added, click Settings in OBS Studio.

  • Go to the Output section and choose the folder where the recording should be stored.

  • You can also configure the recording quality and video format. After completing the configuration, click OK.

  • Now click Start Virtual Camera and then Start Recording. This enables the OBS virtual camera and starts recording the session locally on your computer.

  • Next, go to your Learnyst school and open the desired live class. Click Start Live Class

  • And then Join Class.

  • When the note popup appears, select I Understand and click Proceed.

  • Turn on your camera and select OBS Virtual Camera from the camera options.

  • This will display everything configured in OBS, including your screen, webcam, and other sources.

  • Now, unmute your microphone.

Since the screen is already being shared through the OBS Virtual Camera, you do not need to share your screen again inside the live class.

  • Before starting your session, click the Recording button inside the live class. This will automatically record and upload the live class to your Learnyst school.

  • You can now start teaching your class.

     

  • After the class is completed, click the Recording button and select Yes to stop the superlive recording.

  • To end the live class, click the Leave button and select End Class

  • Confirm by clicking Yes.

  • Finally, return to OBS Studio and click Stop Recording. The recording will be saved to the folder you selected in the OBS settings.

  • Open the recording folder to verify that the local copy of the recording has been saved successfully.
